Developmentally Appropriate Practices

Kindergarten Readiness teaches to the whole child in order to build a strong foundation. We use play as the primary vehicle for learning and know that it is a process, not an outcome. Playful learning provides opportunities that are meaningful and intentional. Children are given the time and materials needed to explore and make meaning of their place in the world around them. Each and every day we strive to move, sing, create, discuss, observe, read and play. Teachers are facilitators to extend learning by providing opportunities and connecting what we see children doing to the four domains of learning:

  • Language and Literacy Skills

  • Cognitive/Thinking Skills

  • Physical Development

  • Social/Emotional Skills

Relationships

Kindergarten Readiness is a relationship based program. In order for students to play and foster relationships with peers, be able to collaborate and work together, respect others opinions and deal with their emotions, we need to create a sense of community first. Children who have a sense of trust and security are more likely to take risks in their learning because they feel comfortable. When adults model these positive relationships it helps create a healthy development in children.  Our goal is to have that sense of community extend beyond students and teachers to the home so that we can create a partnership for your child's success.
